The remote Chinese city of E'erguna has been listed in the United Nations' 100 Cities initiative, a campaign to boost environmentally-friendly and human-centered ways of urban construction.

EASEN’s General Manager, Dr. Ping Zhuang, was invited to the International Expert Meeting in E’erguna (17th - 21st March) which will help shape the future development plans for this small city. E’erguna has a unique location, set amidst protected grasslands and wetlands of outstanding natural beauty on the Hulunbeir steppe or prairie (with rich energy and mineral resources below ground) as well as a challenging climatic zone with temperatures ranging from -35°C in the long winters to + 35°C in summer.

A Masterplan for the central city (the seat of the local government with a current population of circa 37,000) looks ahead to 2030 and is currently being prepared by JAO Design (Beijing) with their partners BDSP Partnership (London). E’erguna City is a county with a population of some 85,000 spread over a large territorial area.

The event is part of an extensive environmental initiative called “Laboratory for Sustainable Urban Development in Asia’s Largest Wetlands”.
