A rapidly developing aimag center. The additional funds will continue to be strengthened through technical assistance (TA), namely the wastewater management capabilities of the Aimag Public Service Organization (PUSO) in existing and other project Aimag centers.

On April 19, 2010, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) approved a $15 million grant from its Asian Development Fund for development projects in the southeastern Gobi City and border towns to support the provision of infrastructure and services in cities in the southeastern Gobi. At that time, due to the expansion of mining business and the strengthening of trade channels with the People's Republic of China, the target economic activities of Dornogovi and Umnugovi were rapidly increasing. This has led to an increase in urban population, but the aimag center and major soum centers lack comprehensive urban infrastructure and services. The expected impact of the current project is to improve economic development and livability in the aimag center, mining, and border towns in the southeast of the Gobi. The expected outcome will be to improve urban development and governance, and expand access to sustainable infrastructure and public services in urban areas in the southeastern part of the Gobi. The main outputs of the current project include urban roads, water supply networks, wastewater and regional heating, solid waste collection and disposal systems, and reform of urban service provision.
