World Bank Loan 7693-CN: Guizhou Cultural and Natural Heritage Protection and Development Project

 

 

 

EASEN signed for the World Bank (WB) Loan 7693-CN: Guizhou Cultural and Natural Heritage Protection and Development Project. The main focus of the project is the implementation support for community-based sustainable tourism, project management, and quality control as well as practical specific researches. The project development objective is to assist Guizhou Province in increasing economic benefits to local communities (including minority groups) through increased tourism and better protection of the region’s cultural and natural heritage. The consulting package covers 18 ethnic minority villages, 3 ancient towns, 2 national scenic areas, and 2 natural heritage sites in Guizhou Province.

 

 

The project comprises of 4 components:

 

  1. Ethnic Minority Cultural Heritage Protection, aiming at increasing employment and incomes of residents of selected minority villages and ancient towns in Qiandongnan and Qianxinan Prefectures and improving their basic living conditions, with special attention to the protection of their cultural heritage
  2. Natural Heritage and Scenic Site Protection and Development, including the execution of physical investments to improve infrastructure and tourism facilities
  3. Tourism Gateway Town Facilities Development
  4. Capacity Building and Project Implementation Support

 

 

Consulting services to be provided in the following areas:

 

  • Overall project management, monitoring and reporting
  • Comprehensive field-level support for community-based development
  • Infrastructure construction and maintenance of houses for local villagers
  • Protection and inheritance of intangible cultural heritage
  • Professional study and development plan for several topics, such as: handicrafts making and marketing; guideline for the design of hiking and bicycle fields in surrounding mountains; study on community-based rural tourism  development; and protection and presentation of geological park
  • Eco-tourism and cultural heritage protection training

 

 

Tasks include but are not limited to the following:

 

  • Design and bid document review
  • Overall project management
  • Quality control for infrastructure and facilities in natural and scenic areas, minority cultural and historical museums, and tourist information centers; as well as promotion, exhibition, and marketing of ethnic minority products
  • Overall project management and coordination, monitoring, and reporting
  • Overall construction supervision
  • Comprehensive field-level support for community-based development planning, implementation and management of: village infrastructure, village environment protection, restoration of ancient historic buildings, and houses with rich ethnic architectural value
  • Demonstration houses design
  • Protection and development of intangible cultural heritage


This project started in December 2010 and will be completed in December 2016.
